In Nepal

MEPO Nepal – Past Activities

From 1999 to 2001 MEPO operated in Nepal, conducting free remote health camps, running a free clinic in Kathmandu, providing assistance to schools, ashrams, and orphanages, and initiating the construction of a mother-child health care center, all made possible through the compassion and generosity of donors all over the world.
Regrettably, due to a number of factors including the political climate and the State of Emergency due to the civil war in Nepal, in December 2001 it was decided by the MEPO Committee to suspend operations of MEPO as an NGO in Nepal.
This does not in any way mean that MEPO is slowing down or curtailing its mission of serving. The work of MEPO continues stronger than ever, but in Afghanistan where the need is also so great.
Hopefully this will be a temporary closure in Nepal, and perhaps in future years, MEPO will be able to reopen and resume work there. A supportive network of dedicated, socially conscious friends remains in place, ready to resume working and volunteering when MEPO returns to serve the people of Nepal.
Until that time, we must remember that the particular country where people are being served and helped is not what matters most; it is the people themselves.
"Humanity is more important than nations." (Goethe)
