Sirjana Sansaar Preschool in Nepal

Having seen from the House of Flowers how positively a Montessori environment impacts children, MEPO supported the founding of a new Montessori preschool in Kathmandu, Nepal, in April, 2008. This is MEPO's first project in Nepal since having relocated to Afghanistan from Nepal in 2002.

Sirjana Sansaar (Creativity Center) was established by Bhola Hari Dhital, an experienced teacher and long-time friend of MEPO in Nepal. After receiving his international Montessori certificate in Chennai, Bhola opened the first truly Montessori preschool in Kathmandu in 2008.

Rather than target the well-off families who usually attend private schools, Sirjana Sansaar is providing vital early education for the poorest families in the neighborhood. MEPO is providing full scholarships to at least 5 children, and this will likely increase. By keeping its fees very low, at less than $50 per month, Sirjana Sansaar can reach more lower income families.

During a visit in May 2009, the benefits of this Montessori preschool were immediately obvious, as these small children from poor backgrounds were becoming calm, confident and accomplished individuals.
